dare2discover supports schools, community groups and individuals to provide experiences for children and young people that are memorable, educational, fun and free.
Many children may not get to experience things that a lot of us take for granted–like going to the zoo, visiting a rocky shore, riding on a bus or train, attending leadership courses – the list is endless.
We believe that education comprises the whole of life. A child’s mind can be opened to endless possibilities if they are given the opportunity to discover and experience the world around them.
If you have an activity that will give young people an opportunity to experience something beyond what their personal circumstances can afford, please get in touch. We may be able to help. Please click here for an application for funding support.

Previous Events
School Camps
dare2discover have assisted several low decile schools in the Lower Hutt region, with funding to ensure that all of their students can attend school camp. dare2discover understands the importance of these activities in providing new opportunities and developing a young person’s sense of self-worth, resilience, confidence.
Day Trips
Day trips to the Zoo, beach, Museum, National Parks are great ways for young people to experience science, arts and culture first hand in fun and creative ways. Our goal is to remove barriers of funding from low decile schools and community groups so our tamariki can explore a world of wonder beyond their imagination.
Our first grant was for a Zoo trip for Pomare school. We took the entire school, provided lunched with the support of the Red Cross and the Pomare School whanau had a fabulous day out!
Snow Bright and the Frozen Waste
This project was a collaboration with dare2discover, Pomare School and Geraldine Brophy. Snow Bright and the Frozen Waste is an environmental story set in Taita.
A group of students, under the tutelage of illustrator Hannah McKenzie Doornebosch, drew the artwork for the book and dare2dicover published it.
A big thankyou to the generosity of Geraldine for giving us permission to illustrate and publish her book and to the sponsors who supported this project, providing untold opportunities for the students at Pomare School.
The artwork is amazing!
We blogged about the activity during the project, click here to read more about it!
Leadership Courses
Our young people are our future leaders and limited resources shouldn’t limit their potential. dare2discover believes that supporting young people to be leaders in their own communities, of their own people, will inspire and challenge others to rise up and be the best they can be.
dare2discover has supported two young men to attend the Future Leaders Academy in the Cook Islands.
Testimonials
dare2discover generously contributed to Nextstage Theatre Company’s children’s show “Snowbright and the Frozen Waste” in 2015. This was our first show for children and we had the lofty vision of offering it free of charge to as many kids as possible in the Hutt Valley. This goal was successfully accomplished and your help was invaluable. Not only did this bilingual, eco-friendly play delight and inform 500 children in three days, it also transported them literally and figuratively to within the magic box of theatre. For free. It truly was a Dare to Discover event and our feed back was phenomenal.
Thank you dare2discover.
Thank you once again for paying for our abseiling, kayaking and our ore-swimming lessons. A lot of people were able to swim at the beach because of those swimming lessons. They were also really fun and exciting! Kayaking was another one of my favourite activities as I had never done it before. It was awesome to learn how to get help if you had fallen out in the deep waters and also how to help others. I cam e away from that experience feeling extremely happy, proud and confident. Thank you for that.
We would like to thank you for your support of our Year 5 & 6 Epuni School Camp 2022. It was so wonderful to see the bubbling excitement (and a few nerves) of our tamariki as they headed off on camp. They had an amazing time. The memories, experiences and skills they gained will stay with them as they continue on in their education journey.
Archery was my most favourite thing at camp because when we were going to leave, I shot and got three bulls eyes!
